Following a mastectomy and breast reconstruction, or when having a lumpectomy, the natural nipple and areola can be lost. A Nipple Prosthesis can be constructed to replace the natural nipple, and restore the aesthetic appearance of the breast. These prostheses are made to match the original or existing nipple in size, shape and colour.

Generally two appointments are necessary:

  1. An impression is taken to enable a mould to be made and colours are mixed in silicone to match the skin tones of the existing nipple areola.
  2. The silicone prosthesis is extrinsically painted and instruction given on usage, and application of the adhesive

Once positioned, the silicone nipple should remain fixed to the breast tissue for between 2 and 3 months at a time. A total of 5 nipple prostheses are provided. Each prosthesis has a life of approximately 18 months. The five nipple prostheses should therefore offer 8 years use. If a further supply is required, additional nipples can be supplied on demand.

The charge for 5 hand-made nipple prostheses is £450.

BILATERAL NIPPLE PROSTHESES can be made by having impressions taken of both nipple areolae prior to surgery. This allows exact replicas to be made and fitted once reconstructive surgery is complete. If this option is not viable, a selection of over 300 nipples can be reviewed to choose a size, shape and colour that best reproduces a likeness to your nipples.

This lady unfortunately developed Keloids post surgery, a very effective treatment for Keloids is silicone gel.

It can be possible to construct nipples for patients by post if they are able to provide accurate scale colour photographs of their existing nipple/s or if they are bi-lateral patients provide approximate measurements of their nipples prior to mastectomy.

Sometimes a patient may decide to choose nipples with a larger areola if they are trying to cover circular scarring following latissimus dorsi reconstructive surgery. This is surgery using a muscle flap, or flaps from the back. Similarly if a patient is having a breast reduction they may desire nipples with a smaller areola.

Nipples can also be permanently fitted to breast prostheses to provide a realistic profile under clothing.
